Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you work?
A: There is always something going on in my sessions. You will not just sit there posing. I either direct, use improvisation, encourage you to take on a character, or just talk. I don't shoot unless there is something going on in your eyes
Q: What do you do if someone is nervous and can't seem to get a good shot?
A: Before I start any shoot we discuss the desired outcome and do a relaxation excercise similar to those done in acting classes. We also talk about any of your fears or concerns. You are then focused, centered, and ready to start your shoot.
Q: Do you shoot with music??
A: Always! I have a huge selection of music or you can bring your own CD's and tapes. This adds to the relaxed, casual, fun atmosphere of the session.
Q: Do you shoot in a studio or outside with natural light?
A: I shoot in a very professional and comfortable studio. Natural light causes the pupils to constrict and the eyes to squint. One mark of a good photo is open, receptive, and alive eyes. An outdoor shoot may also be widny, rainy, hot or cold causing messy hair and snotty noses. The industry has preferred studio shots for the last ten years for theatrical as well as commercial shots.
Q: Do you take a polaroid before you start shooting?
A: Yes. A polaroid allows us to check hair, make-up and lighting.
Q: Do you work with celebrities?
A: Yes. I have photographed many film and tv stars over the years.
Q: Do you work with brand new actors?
A: Absolutely, I love working with new actors. They are actually one of my favorite types of clients to shoot.
Q: Will you call my agent or manager before my shoot?
A: Yes, it is extremely important to make sure your agents have the shots they feel best represent you. I take detailed notes on exactly what they are looking for in your headshots. Open lines of communication between actor, photographer, and agent result in shots that please everyone involved.
Q: Do you change lighting?
A: Yes. I light each person individually. Commercial shots are lighter and brighter while theatrical shots are darker and more intense. Lighting depends on teh person. The background can be adjusted depending on your taste. I also utilize color gels for my color shots.
Q: Do you have a make up artist?
A: Yes. I have wonderful make-up artists who stay throughout the entire shoot. They help with the hair, wardrobe, and any necessary touch-ups. They create a variety of different looks: natural, character, business, drop-dead gorgeous.
Q: How many changes of clothes can I bring?
A: You may bring as many changes of clothing as you would like.
Q: Do you shoot color?
A: Yes.
Q: Who keeps the negatives?
A: Most actors store their negs at my lab for safety and convenience in ordering; our negs have lived through floods, fires and earthquakes. However, you also have the option of keeping them.
Q: How many people do you shoot in a day?
A: Only two, I don't like anyone to be rushed. You are king or queen for a day in my studio. I also don't answer the phone or door during the session unless someone is bringing in large sums of cash or chocolate for both of us.
